    Tire & Wheel Buying Guide

Everything you need to buy the right set the first time — sizes, ratings, seasons and wheel fitment, explained without the jargon.

    1. Read your tire size

A size like 225/45R17 94V breaks down as: 225 mm section width, 45 aspect ratio (sidewall height is 45% of the width), R radial construction, 17 inch rim diameter, 94 load index and V speed rating. Match the size on your door jamb sticker unless a shop has recommended an approved alternative.

    2. Respect load and speed ratings

The load index tells you how much weight each tire can carry; the speed rating is the maximum sustained speed the tire is built for. Never go below the ratings your manufacturer specifies — especially on trucks, SUVs and towing vehicles, where LT (light truck) construction is often required.

    3. Pick the right season

All-season tires are the default for mild climates. Winter tires use a softer compound that stays flexible below 7 °C and stop dramatically shorter on snow and ice. Summer and performance tires trade cold-weather grip for dry handling. Our season guide compares all four in detail.

    4. Budget the full set

Price per tire is only part of the story. At Fitted Rims shipping is free across the US, there is no minimum order, and you have 90 days to return unmounted, unused product. If you would rather spread the cost, financing is available through Affirm and Snap Finance.

    5. Wheels: the four numbers that matter

    • Diameter & width — e.g. 20x9. Must pair with a tire size that keeps rolling diameter close to stock.
    • Bolt pattern — e.g. 5x114.3. Has to match your hubs exactly.
    • Offset — how far the mounting face sits from the wheel centreline; controls how far the wheel pokes out.
    • Centre bore — the hub hole; smaller than your hub will not fit, larger needs hub-centric rings.

    Common questions

Where do I find my tire size?

It is printed on the sidewall of your current tires and on the sticker inside the driver's-side door jamb. It looks like 225/45R17 — width in millimetres, aspect ratio, then rim diameter in inches.

Do I have to replace all four tires?

Replacing all four keeps handling predictable and is required on most all-wheel-drive vehicles. If you replace only two, put the new pair on the rear axle.

How do I know when tires are worn out?

Use the built-in wear bars or a quarter test. Below 4/32" of tread, wet braking distances grow sharply — that is the time to shop, not after.

Can I change wheel size when I buy new wheels?

Yes, as long as the overall rolling diameter stays close to stock and the bolt pattern, offset and centre bore match your vehicle. Every order is covered by our Fitment Guarantee.
